What is the best way to clean a wedding dress? Its just the bottom of my dress that got dirty (outside wedding) and I didn’t want to have to take it to someone if there was a way for me to do it myself. Thanks!

no…leave it alone or take it to the dry cleaners. the fabric may be something than cannot be washed or has a weird finish on it…also a dry cleaner will clean and package it for you to store.

Actually I’ll give you a little tip. My mom’s best friend runs a bridal store. For 90% of gowns when they professionally clean your dress, they are putting it in a giant washing machine. Now some fabrics you can’t do that with and some have too much beading or are simply too poofy, but this is what they do:
They remove the crinoline from the dress. They use a commercial sized washing machine on delicate with Woolite. Immediately when it is done, they hang the dress to dry. Corset dresses are placed on a dress mold to dry but many others are just hung up. Be careful what you hang it with as you don’t want to use any hangers with metal or that pinch that might mar the dress.
    That’s it.
I’d verify the material of your dress first. But (as I know people are going to give me thumbs down) if you don’t believe me, go into a bridal store on Saturday when they are really busy. Look in the back room and you’ll see the washing machines and the dresses hanging up there.

    Hmm.. depends on the fabric..
Look up the fabric care guidelines on the internet first..
Then, get a big rubbermaid container, and fill with laundrey detergent and water. Add some oxy clean to it, and drape over a table, chair, .. etc, so that when the bottom of the dress hangs down, the dirty parts are in the bucket of water.
I wouldn’t risk anything more like scrubbing.. soak it first, then dab the areas, then soak again, then dab again, then rinse..

Do not do it yourself. You pay the money to have it cleaned by a professional. If you do it yourself, you risk ruining it. Unless you have worked in a dry cleaners, don’t do it.

just dont try to clean it your self and dont bring it to a cheap dry-cleaners
take it to a good dry-cleaners and ask them if they have the right kind of machine to clean it
it should be good then…hope this helps :)

I would say take it somewhere…it’s really not worth wrecking the dress over a few dollars. Good luck!

Yes… but its ganna be costly… buy a pool and then pour 80 percent bleach and 20 percent water in and throw the wedding dress in for 24 hours… then dont rinse… then air dry :D
