How Much Did You Spend On Your Wedding Dress?

Friday, September 25, 2009
By weddingplan

I’m just curious how much people in the real world spend on their wedding dresses (not all these tv shows where a small budget is $5000 for a dress!) And how much was your budget for the rest of your wedding. Just so I can get a comparison.
Thanks!

$280. I loved it. It was not a standard traditional wedding dress, but a beautiful dress I thought was perfect (it was also a colored dress).
Our whole wedding cost about $7000, but we were very untraditional, and didn’t pay for things we considered silly and could do for cheaper. Plus we had a small wedding. Most of the cost went to the revenue (they had this awesome waterfall, I couldn’t pass it up, no matter the cost…well, I had limits, we aren’t making serious money just yet).
About $400 went into the cake. We did an iPod DJ, so that cost nothing. Food cost about $2000 for 60 people. Photographer we paid $750 and videographer was $320.

My dress was $800 before taxes and alterations. (My wedding is February 8, 2009, so I haven’t had my alterations appointment yet.)
As for the rest of my budget…the catering will be about $4500, the flowers about $350…the photographer about $1200…the DJ about $500…the favors about $100…decorations and centerpieces about $250…each of the tuxes will be $106 to rent…the invitations and programs about $200…I think that’s just about everything.
If you’re looking for ways to cut costs, try to do a lot of it yourself, such as:
-My mom is making all of the bouquets, corsages, and boutonnieres. We went to Hobby Lobby and bought a bunch of the floral stems when they were half off. We picked ones that looked real, so my bouquet looks real! Another plus…I get to keep my bouquet because the flowers are silk!!
-I bought programs from a local wedding store and am printing them off myself. You can also buy invitation kits and print your own out.
-We are making our own favors up to cut costs. (Favors can get really expensive, if you don’t watch it!)

My dress was just over $800.00 and that wasn’t budget shopping either. I picked about 6 or 8 dresses, and didn’t look at a single price tag until I was done. Only 1 dress was over $1000. And they were all beautfiul and had trains, beads the whole nine yards. those people on TV are paying for brand names and it is not neccesary!!!
I haven’t gotten married yet but so far we have:
    $300 for my centerpieces
~$1200 for flowers (I got out of season flowers. This is where I chose to splurge)
    $350.00 hall rental
    ~$1500.000 caterer (About 100 people $15 / plate.)
    ~$600 dj
    $150.00 cake
Thats all I can think of right now…
We did NOT price compare or anything, these were just the prices, but I live in a small town, so they might be more or less than some people.
…And you can finance anything nowadays, including dresses.

I paid 250 for a wedding dress, but all last years styles were strapless and sleeveless. I really wanted sleeves. I found out someone was giving away their wedding dress, it just needed some altering, and it was what I wanted, sleeves that ended in a v tip and beading, everything. And it was free! Now to see the one I didn’t wear. ;) As for my wedding, we did it all for under $1000. :) And we had EVERYTHING we wanted, I just looked for deals, asked friends that could help to help me as their wedding gift, and so on. I look back, and still loved how the day turned out. And the best was that we didn’t go into debt.

My dress was 628 my wedding budget is 5,000 my cake is around 700 my catering 1,400 my dj 550.
There is no financing. LOL 0% interest! what a riot!! my wedding botique only makes you pay half down . You can make payments whenever you want just so it’s paid off before you pick it up for the wedding. There are no extra charges. They order it for you with half down. Then they alter it and fit it and everything and you pay the base price with taxes. No interest fees.

    Flowers: $50.00 (at most)

I paid 1K for my dress, 5K for the reception, 4K for the wedding, 400 for the grooms cake 300 for the wedding cake, I don’t know why the grooms cake was more – 300 for photographer, 350 for rehearsal dinner, I can’t remember the cost of the dj set up, but my dj was 300, that’s all i can remember.

    this is my dresshttp://www.davidsbridal.com/bridal_gowns…
    I didn’t pay $1,000 I paid almost $900 including taxes.
My budget for the dress was nowhere near that i was more in the $400-$500 and i was planning on buying it online but when i went to the store i felt and looked like a million bucks in the dress so i had to buy it. It was perfect for me i knew i wanted a champagne colored dress (I’m not traditional to do the white) and i love the pickup style dress. (I know some people don’t like it but i love it).
My total budget for my wedding is about $20,000 which is a great price for a wedding in nyc but that’s because i’m doing alot of things myself.

I had a budget of 5000 and spent 800 on my dress. That included all alterations and everything though. I was very happy with my dress and couldn’t have imagined wearing anything different.
This is what my dress looked like. http://s41.photobucket.com/albums/e271/a…
    Good Luck

My dress cost $60. My whole wedding was $3500. Having a cheaper, more casual wedding meant I could go with a simpler dress. The ones I was looking at before were still $200+. I just lucked out that I found a dress I really liked on sale at JC Penney. It was marked as $75, but at the cash register, they rang it up for only $60.

My dress was $449 on sale (originally $500…. so not much off.) Although I also have to buy the $50 slip to go under it… and pay for alterations still. I would say total it’s going to end up around $650. You can definitely get a beautiful dress for under the $5,000 budget we all see on TV. I suggest NOT trying on anything that is out of your budget… you don’t want to fall in love with something you can’t have. Look at price tags first (as sad as that sounds.)

I bought a used Maggie Sottero gown off of craigslist.com for $140. It was $1200 originally and in perfect condition. It’s beautiful and exactly what I am looking for! Our entire wedding budget is $10k, but I want the bulk of that to go toward our guests… food, good DJ, etc.

My dress was 500.00, it was more than I wanted to spend. And my total budget was 7000.00. We were well below that when everything was paid for, we only spend 5500.00. You don’t have to spend a lot of money, the memories will be the same no matter if you spend 1000.00 or 10,000.

My dress cost $1200. But expect to get close to $1500 w/ the veil and alterations. Our wedding budget is $25k, including the rehearsal dinner, stationary, all the extras but the honeymoon.

Mine was about $100. And the total wedding budget probably fit comfortably under 1K. It was very informal.

Including alterations, I paid about $1,700, then about $400 for veil and tiara. My total budget was $40,000, but we wound up spending a little less than that.
