I wanted to rephrase my previous question so that no one thinks that Im trying to use yahoo answers to advertise. I just want to know if people like the idea or not. And please tell me if you have had a custom gown made or not and if you were happy or not. Thanks!

A custom made wedding gown, sooo much better than a store bought one!
Think of it, you could have it made so that it’s an original. Ok, now I want to get one hand made .
The first time I got married, the MOH and one of the bridesmaids dresses were bought at a bridal shop and the other bridesmaids dress was handmade and it looked exactly like the store bought ones, less expensive but just as beautiful.

My gown will be custom made because I will make it myself.
My older sister’s gown was made by our mother
My niece’s gown was made by her mother and hand hemmed by her grandmother. Gown made by hand by family are made with love – what a better way to start life.

Hi! I answered your question earlier but deleted it because I was rambling & not making sense. Yes, I would use a service like that but only if the person was highly experienced. I think you got some answers that didn’t suit you based on the Chinese reference LOL! But yeah, I had such a hard time finding what I liked in the bridal shops. It just wasn’t me. Don’t get me wrong, some of those dresses are gorgeous on the right person but it’s not what I wanted. Everything I found that was unique in any way, was too expensive. I took a chance emailing a dress maker on ebay and got a response along the lines of this . . . yes, i make for you, no worry, 200 dollar. I was like, mmm . . . no.
I would definitely have it custom made if I could afford it. The one I really liked just had SO much detail & there was no way to replicate it without looking cheesy or cheap.

I dont know – it is usually more expensive for custom made and with the millions of gowns out there you would think you could just find one. Its a bit different if you are having a friend or family member make it.

No one ever likes custom made gowns…
    I would just buy one.

I am having a custom made gown by the woman that designed the original gown I fell in love with but had certain aspects I was not so keen on. I have to warn you though in these price ranges people expect a lot even 1000 when you are custom making a wedding gown it is very personal! It is not something that is easy to do, I won’t buy from someone just starting up, just being honest.
I will tell you I was attracted to it because I like to know my gown will fit me to a t and I didn’t have to settle I am getting exactly what I want.

I don’t get the point of your question. I don’t really know what there is to not like about a custom made gown… Well, except for the price.

Yes, I love the idea of having a one of a kind dress. Then again, I am a bit partial to that because my dress will be custom made by my fiance’s aunt who does fashion design. She’s done her own line, makes costumes for plays and movies, and has made a wedding dress before, AND she’s family, so it won’t cost an arm and a leg. My dream would be to have Christian from Project Runway design a dress for me…now that would be awesome.
