How Does The Tradition Of Engagement & Wedding Rings Work?

I know there’s the engagement ring on the left hand. When you get married, what does the man give the woman? A wedding band to wear on the right hand, or one that matches the engagement ring to wear under the engagement ring? I see some women wearing both, but how is it traditionally supposed to be?

You wear your engagement and wedding ring on your left ring finger because it is closest to your heart. When you get married, you can move your engagement ring to your right ring finger until your husband to be puts your wedding band on. You will also put his ring on his left ring finger.
Traditionally all wedding rings are worn on the left hand because like I said it is closer to the heart.
    I hope this helped.

It depends on the couple, but traditionally the woman receives an engagement ring when the man proposes and then during the wedding the couple exchanges wedding bands. The wedding band it worse first and then the the engagement ring is on top. Sometimes the rings match or are what is called a bridal set.

The engagement ring makes the man pay to secure you as a piece of future property and show that you are claimed. The wedding band has the symbolism of being eternally joined in the sight of God. Either way you look at it, they are all symbols of being claimed. Why do you think males remove theirs when they go hunting for “fresh” meat?
The engagement ring is not a tradition even in all European countries. The bands are generally worn on the right hand, except in the USA. Just because we Americans change things around doesn’t make it “right.”

Sometimes the plain band is their anniversary ring, or their first wedding ring if they had no $ at the time. Traditionally you wear your wedding ring and engagement ring on your left hand. But if you are Greek Orthodox your wedding ring goes on your right hand. I also know women who wear their late mothers’ wedding rings on their right hands. You can buy bridal sets that match, or just buy E/W rings that coordinate.

Traditionally, the wedding band is worn behind the engagement ring as it is considered more closer to the heart. A lot of people, today, wear matching wedding bands but traditionally there is no such rule of wearing a matching band, it depends on person to person some may like matching bands, while some prefer wearing a simple wedding bands that do not necessarily matches their engagement rings.

Traditionally when he “askes you” then you get the engagement ring, and you wear that until the wedding day and then you get a matching or wedding band to wear under your engagement ring. closest to your hand.
Sometimes when the woman has a ring on her right hand its a purity ring or promise ring she had before…

At the wedding the groom gives a bride a wedding band to be worn with her engagement ring on the left hand. They don’t necessarily have to “match”, but they are worn together. After years, you may take the engagement ring off (I did because I like my simple band) but most people continue to wear both.

Normally the wedding band goes behind the engagement ring (closest to the hand.) It may or may not be designed as matching set, a simple gold band can be worn next to most typical engagement rings.
